Over 500 persons, on Wednesday at the Upata Palace Ground in Edeoha Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State, the administrative headquarters of the Upata people benefited from a free medical and welfare outreach programme organized by the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the Upata Traditional Council.

Targeted as part of the efforts to give back to the society, some of the services rendered at the one day exercise included free medical screening, free medicated eye glasses and drugs for common ailments.

The exercise kick starts the implementation of an elaborate plan to keep the people healthy and as well effectively police the Upata Kingdom for enhanced business operations. One, the police top echelon and the Upata Traditional Council are irrevocably committed to protect lives and property, enhance the health of natives and residents. The siting of a Police Medical Centre at Edeoha Town and a full fledged Divisional Police Headquarters form part of the strategy.

Led by the Commissioner in-charge of Medical, South-South zone, Efonsola Soweimo, the leadership of Upata Kingdom was described as one with “purpose and vision. They are determined to make progress.” The Commissioner was represented by Dr. A. E Oni, a Deputy Supreintendent of Police. The unique role played by the police is commendable.

The success of the medical free medical outreach was due mainly to the genuine support of the Upata people and the total commitment shown by the Upata Traditional Council to develop the area. Apart from the presnce of a police division in the area, an armed wing of the Nigerian Civil Defense and Security Corps has been approved to compliment the security arrangement of the Upata Kingdom.

This is why investors should take advantage of the security measures to invest in Kingdom. The
peaceful and friendly disposition of Upata people is an added plus.

With a resolve to attract more developmental partners, the Upata Traditional Council was represented at the medical outreach program by His Royal Highness, Nye Udu Moses Agbezhi Daniel, Nye-Udu Ugbokor I and other Council members. The medical centre at Edeoha is expected to cover Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua/Odual and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.
